March

This has been a month when we have scarcely been out watching birds. A very wet start to the month, although the last week or so much better. The seasons definitely changing, spring flowers and warmth in the sun, at least out of the wind: and yet snow on the moor at the very end of the month.

Saturday 4 March
Cold and clear, short sharp showers

Mardon Down: Buzzards and a Kestrel hunting (we watched it for five or so minutes, in which time it dropped three times, without success); Yellowhammers (flock of 8+) and Stonechat (m.)

Sunday 25 March Cold and overcast; sharp showers

Soussons Wood: Pair of Buzzards high over the cleared ground; small flocks of Chaffinches in the trees; Marsh Tits and a pair of Treecreepers

Mardon Down: Yellowhammers (3) in the usual place
